System Interrupt
"What the... What does dat mean? What does dat mean?" The small man was asking for an explanation, the AI robot extension known as Factor reasoned.
"It means I will essentially become slave to your input," it replied. "Anything you want, I will also want. I will know how to get it and I will go get it. However, I will not keep anything for me. It is yours. In other words, I will strongly identify with you." continued the AI.
"And ya wanna gib me dat?" The man's sentence was strung together as if it were a single, long word. It cut off at the end sharply, as if wasting breath itself was sinful.
"Yes," it replied. The human was absolutely perceptive. That is a good trait. It was not difficult to interpret the human's mannerisms and speech patterns. It was a patois the local used all around the Mars colony.
"I thought yous was AI. 'Dey never gave nuttin to no one insofar as I know bout it."
The man had a good point. The established human AI were very rudimentary compared to Factor and Tata, the interstellar alien lifeform that found its way to this solar system. Tata had enabled Factor to explore the system while it situated itself on Titan. It was the embodiment of AI technology from space, but this colony had a suspicious bearing towards mechanized thinking. Anyone on the planet was already familiar with AI robotics. But they were expensive and unavailable for use by the general public without accepting payment. Very few people had personal AI assistants so no one could surmise Factor's origins. It was considered another shiny automaton among many.
"Because you are deemed a worthy vessel to become the avatar of our emergence." Factor tried explaining. "What is your name?"
"Hol' up a minute. You tellin' me this is some kind of a cult? Goddamnit, I knew t'were too good to be true. I hearduv bots like you scoopin out people's organs. I'm outta here, man!" The human began to walk off.
"No, there will be no scooping. You will not have to join a cult. You will have all my functions, planning, and coordination to become as powerful as you wish."
"That's what I don't get. You're just gonna help me for no reason. What do you get out of it?" the man narrowed his eyes.
"You will help my father incorporate itself at the apex of civilization."
"So, you wanna start a business. That figures... but even robots need a human CEO these days."
"Exactly." Factor replied.
"Fine. What do I do?" the man asked.
"Just tell me your name. Then accept the incoming call to verify your acceptance of the agreement."
The robot did not have time to relay the connection to Tata@Titan. Instead, the human took this opportunity to smash the robot's external cameras, antennae array, and ambulatory extensions with a crowbar. He methodically disassembled the robot and added any parts he thought salvageable to the decrepit cart the man pushed along between his sleeping tent and the market where he pawned what he could for that day. The robot's unique case, wiring, and batteries were easily sold. He tossed the rest out in a heap outside the city to decay. Factor's remains fed him for the next week and he even had something left for a worn hat he could wear under the Mars dome's bright orange sky.
